Despite reaching its highest value last October, Bitcoin's (BTC) overall performance in 2025 has left investors disappointed.
However, investment management company VanEck stated that the largest crypto asset will experience a major comeback next year.
According to a 2026 outlook published on 18/12/2025, David Schassler as head of multi-asset solutions at VanEck wrote, “Bitcoin is lagging the Nasdaq 100 Index by roughly 50% year-to-date, and that dislocation is setting it up to be a top performer in 2026.”
This year, interest in risky assets has declined and liquidity has tightened. However, Schassler remains optimistic about Bitcoin's performance.
“As debasement [currency devaluation] ramps, liquidity returns, and BTC historically responds sharply,” added Schassler.
Schassler's prediction is based on a powerful combination of monetary devaluation, technological transformation, and an increase in physical assets.
The asset manager argues that funding liabilities and political ambitions will depend on money printing. As a result, investors will move towards investing in scarce assets that can store value, such as gold and Bitcoin.
Bitcoin is not the only asset predicted to rise in 2026. According to Schassler, the price of gold will also skyrocket to $5,000. This year, gold has increased by more than 70% and is now priced at $4,490 per ounce.
“Gold is one of the strongest major assets this year, and we expect that momentum to carry it forward,” he said.
At the same time, natural resources are also entering a quiet but steady bull market phase. This is driven by the increasing infrastructure demands for the development of Artificial Intelligence (AI), energy transition, robotics, and reindustrialization.
Schassler refers to natural resources as “old-world assets” that will build the foundation of the new world economy.
